Work Experience

Information for school students:

If you are a high school student, you can sign up for work experience  here.

Tertiary students should contact professional surveyors in their local area well in advance of the proposed time experience is required. Formal work (paid and unpaid) experience opportunities exist throughout Australia, via larger organisations.

Institution members or careers advisers may request a work experience kit to help them arrange work experience opportunities.

Information for employers:

Work experience is an opportunity to:

  • assist in the vocational development of students.
  • provide a transition from school to working life.
  • test career choices against the realities of the workplace.
  • allow employers to meet potential employees.
  • raise awareness of the profession and its career opportunities and variety.
  • contribute to the skill development of staff by giving them experience as a workplace supervisor.
  • promote goodwill in the community through closer links with schools.

If you are an employer considering taking on a work experience student, the following documents from the NSW Surveying Taskforce are useful guides.
